How did you set up WD Cloud? How do you transfer all of your files to it? I don't know if I'm coming from this as just following the simple process of setting up MY Cloud through my laptop where I store or convert files and within file explorer set all of my folders. I cannot find 'File Management' on my M圜loud device. I am thinking about Kodi, but I can't understand why my media streaming has ceased on the TV, it all appears to be due to the 'File Sharing Settings' being incorrectly entered, but what should they be? Incidentally, I have just noticed that my computers don't show the M圜loud media streming icons any more, sounds as though it is at the Storage Device end?

Lastly WD Cloud has an app also that you can access your media away from home but obviously it isn't a full blown media organiser in the same way Plex and Kodi are.

The only think however is choosing one that has all of the apps you are likely to use, presently Apple doesn't carry Amazon and vice versa, Amazon doesn't have Now TV whereas everything carries Netflix but you just check out what's best. With firesticks, set tops all costing not a lot these days I feel it is the best way to go. Personally I would never rely on apps on TV's, they are not updated in the same way as dedicated apps are elsewhere. Plex has improved out of all recognition over the years and it is a personal choice whether you prefer Kodi or Plex to control your media. The advantage of Plex however is that you can access your media away from home and even on your smart phone as Plex apps are widely availble but you would have to have the Plex server running at home.

Plex operates in the very same way as Kodi does but with one crucial difference it relies on a Plex server running and yes you can install the server on the WD Cloud but if you visit forums either Plex or WD Cloud you will find many find that the WD Cloud isn't powerful enough compared to even a basic dedicated computer, laptop running the server. You set up the path within Kodi to recognise where your media is stored on your WD My Cloud and it is a fairly simple procedure first you would go to file management choose Movies browse where your media is stored and add Movies, follow the same procedure for TV Shows, Photos and Music bearing in mind that you have already set up individual folders in WD Cloud to identify movies, TV Shows, Photos etc otherwise if everything is stored in one folder Kodi or indeed Plex couldn't separate them. If you are only planning to watch, view or listen to your media at home then Kodi is very good as it doesn't rely on a server running on a separate computer.

I use both Plex and Kodi to organise my media whether it be TV, films, music or photos. I probably have a similar set up using WD My Cloud for storage but use the Amazon Fire TV, many use the cheaper Fire stick but it doesn't have an ethernet connection and I always feel it better to connect directly. To convert your files and burn your own collection of DVD's then Handbrake is a very popular application wher you can convert to almost any format, I convert to MP4. What am I doing wrong?, is it the TV or have I altered something on the server?

UPDATE - initially everything worked ok using the M圜loud media player 'Twonky', but after 24 hours or so the TV (Panasonic TX 50CX700) lost the video streaming and trying to set up 'File Server Settings' on the TV I am unable to find the correct name for the 'Shared Folder' folder in the registration menu, at least I think that is where I am going wrong, just comes up with not found.
